CLEAR COMMUNICATION COUNTS

Too often we are generic when we apply to Academies. “I want to serve my country,” we say.
We think it sounds patriotic, but it actually sounds unconvincing. “Yes, I know you want to serve your country, but what do you actually want to do in the military?”
When it goes a few layers deeper, people stumble. They haven’t thought it through.
Here’s the tip: know specifically what you want to do, and why. And if its a popular career path, like aviation, research a backup career in case it doesn’t work out.
By demonstrating a coherent career path, from your intended major to your desired career, you show you’re a thoughtful future leader capable of developing sound strategies for others to eventually follow.
