Why I Attended the Academy – My Personal Story
Getting accepted is a game changer.
The Academy was one of the biggest blessings of Travis’ life.
And that’s why he is passionate about helping people get accepted.
In this bonus video, Academy Endeavors founder and USAFA ‘07 grad Travis Wittick tells his story of how he decided to attend the Academy, what his experience was like, and how he benefited.
Travis tells the story below in his own words…
“In 2002, I was a junior in high school when a family member told me about the Air Force Academy.
At the time I was looking for the best college I could get into. I had a good GPA, I had a good SAT score, and I was team captain on my football team. So, I went out for a visit.
When I visited and then compared the Academy versus the other college choices, I fell in love with the challenge that the Academy offered. The other schools were really good schools as well, but I knew for sure that I could graduate. But, for some reason, I doubted whether I could survive the Academy. It looked so hard and so challenging that I doubted whether I could do it, and that doubt actually drew me in.
My experience at the Academy was, well, really hard. A lot of times, I wanted to quit. But I didn’t, and I am so glad I endured. First, I came away with some of the best friends in my life. And second, I grew so much as a person. I grew spiritually in my faith as a Christian. I grew in my appreciation for life. I grew mentally in my confidence that I can get through challenging times.
I benefited so much from my Academy experience. At 23 years old, I was leading people longer than I had been alive at the time. It was a very humbling and enriching leadership experience. I spent eight years active duty and I was able to see different parts of the world that I would never have seen otherwise. I lived on the East Coast, the West Coast, and in Europe as well. It was a very diverse experience before I even hit 30 years old.
The Academy really opened up doors for me that I couldn’t have walked through if I had not been an Academy grad. Applying to grad school, particularly a very competitive business school, and admissions seeing that I was an Academy grad and a veteran significantly helped me get in. Another benefit is being a part of the Academy alumni network, where you can reach out to other people that are as talented and as high character as I’m sure you strive to be.
That’s my story of why I applied, what I experienced, and how I benefited. Now, I created this company, Academy Endeavors, to help YOU. To help students, parents, and school counselors that want that same dream. I’m fighting to have you have access to the same benefits that I have benefited from.”
