BUILD RELATIONSHIPS EARLY!

When your application opens, you are assigned a Liaison Officer. Your Liaison Officer’s job is to be the “eyes and ears” of admissions on the ground. They will interview you and send a report to admissions. This interview score matters a ton. So, the key is relationship building. You want to build rapport before the interview happens.

Here’s a few things juniors can do once their application opens:

– reach out with an enthusiastic, professional email -ask thoughtful questions (if you have them)

-set up a time to meet and greet.

If you’re a senior and you’ve already interviewed with your Liaison Officer, then here’s a few things you can do:

-update them when you get the nomination!

-ask for feedback

-update them with new SAT scores/leadership positions (if applicable)

USCGA & USMMA don’t have Liaison Officers – instead, they have Admissions Officers (AO) based on U.S. region. The same advice 👆 applies with them.

USAFA has two distinct differences. First, they assign you 2 ALO’s. The Mentor ALO answers questions throughout the process and is assigned when you open your application. The Interview ALO will interview you and is assigned when you submit the application. So, as soon as you submit the application is when you’ll send the professional intro email.

Also, contrary to other Academies, USAFA doesn’t have Admissions Officers easily accessible. Instead, check your portal to see if your assigned to Team Blue or Team Silver. Those are the emails you can ask questions to if you can’t get what you need from your ALO.

ALO – USAFA

BGO – USNA
