LINDA JOHANSEN: USCGA CLASS OF 1980

On February 3rd 1976, the Coast Guard Academy announced the appointments of 50 cadets to enter with the Class of 1980, including its first 13 women. USCGA was the second federal academy to offer appointments to women, two years after USMMA did.

Pictured above, Linda Johansen, USCGA Class of 1980, was the first female Regimental Commander of any service academy. Quite an impressive feat.

Here’s to the brave women that serve our country and have gone before us through Service Academies, making it possible for many after them!
