Norwegian Foot March

West Point cadets complete many challenges throughout their careers. The Norwegian Foot March is one of the skill badges that cadets can earn.

Also known as Marsjmerket, The Norwegian Foot March is earned by completing an 18.6-mile foot march while carrying a 25-pound rucksack. This challenge must be completed in under 4.5 hours. First held during WWI in 1915, this test of strength and endurance was part of the Norwegian military’s training while exposing them to conditions that would be comparable to that seen in combat.

Several members of West Point faculty and staff also participate, not only to test their own physical and mental endurance, but also to encourage cadets along the way.

Congratulations to all the cadets who completed the The Norwegian Foot March in late April!!
