The Academy Endeavors Guide to Boys State & Girls State

The answers you’re looking for and why applying for Boys State/Girls State is a no-brainer.

Why apply?

Boys State/Girls State is run through your state’s American Legion, which is a well-known veteran service organization. We highly suggest Boys State/Girls State for our clients because the Academies value it highly! For only 1 week and minimal cost, there isn’t a higher impact activity that you can do. Some have said it’s equivalent in points to Eagle Scout/Gold Award, which takes years of work!

What is it?

The program is jam-packed and high-energy. The focus is on the American democratic system. When you arrive, they randomly separate the group into two parties, the Federalists and the Nationalists. Your task is to form a city, county, and eventually, state government by constructing arguments, running for elected positions, doing mini-speeches, and voting. Most clients come back exhausted with some good stories and new friends.

Why Boys/Girls Nation?

Of the 100-200 attendees, 2 are nominated for Boys Nation/Girls Nation, which takes place in DC in late July. Academies give extra points to those selected. In our experience, those selected are 1) well-respected by staff and peers, and 2) run successfully for high visibility leadership positions, such as Governor.
