USMMA MUSEUM AT KINGS POINT

Visiting Kings Point, NY soon? Be sure to visit the American Merchant Marine Museum! Between 1946 and 1958, the old training ship, Emory Rice, has been a pier side “museum ship” until scrapped in 1958. Midshipman Charles Renick, who graduated in 1947 and later returned as an administrator on campus in 1961, advocated to bring the museum back to reality in a new museum space to secure the Academy’s treasures.

Since March 2009, the museum has operated under federal control and has improved through generous donations. New exhibits have been recognized in the online edition of New Yorker magazine. The museum even has the back-acting engine of the original museum site, steamship Emory Rice, on display! This is the only engine of this type still in existence.
